Uhhgg.

Sooo, I wish I could say that I've made some progress since last post, but I found out that we would have to move out of our house and into an apartment in the neighboring city (by today basically)... hectic is best way to describe the past two weeks. Finally finished moving this morning. Annnnd my final class starts on Tuesday....

I did receive my sketchbook in the mail for the Sketchbook Project, but I may replace the paper in it with some Arches 140 lb cold press. "Night time stories" here I come...

Hopefully things calm down again soon so I can get some extra time on my hands where my brain is not a hundred miles ahead of me.

Though I am getting a new Intuos tablet next week from a friend who has only used it once but is giving me a fantassssstic deal on it (goodbye 6-7 year old 4x5 wacom tablet whose pen grip is falling apart) so hopefully it will spark some more digital artwork too.

Man, moving, and working a 40+hour week is taking its toll... I apologize for this being pretty sporadic- my mind is all over the place right now. I'll update again when I actually have something to show and not excuses for a lack thereof. :P

Recent news

Sooo, just an update. Savannah Candy Kitchen emailed me back and they said my editing was great, however, they want to put the project on hold so that they can get better photos of the products for their catalogs and website. Meh. But, they are going to get back to me if/when they get it back up and going again.

Haven't heard back from the Back in the Day contest, but they closed up shop for a week and a half. So that we'll see about still.

My notebook shipped out yesterday and should be here soon for me to start filling up. Anxious and excited at the same time.

ALSO, I just found this contest, so I'll be working on this too. It's a food poster illustration :) Fantastic. Going to attempt all three categories. Am I crazy? I have a month-ish to do it. Have to make the time and push myself to do it. I will do it...

And lastly, I put color back in my hair on a decisive whim this past weekend and (fortunately) my boss lady likes it, so I don't have to take it back out. I think because of it though, today when I was at Kroger picking up some groceries, a man stopped me in the canned good aisle asking me to join up with him to get a band going. He asked if I was musically inclined and kept talking to me for about 20 minutes trying to get something going even though I insisted I was an artist and not very musically inclined. He was surprised I didn't play an instrument or sing for performance. He mentioned his sound was like Evanessence or Paramore. And this is the reason I believe he scoped me out based on my haircolor. I told him to contact me if he needed any cd artwork, but other than that I couldn't help much... (I'd prefer to work on my artwork than start a band I have to leave in a few months anyway.)

School starts back up soon. Two weeks I think? Hard to believe it's almost over.

I'm back :)

After a a bit of an artwork hiatus due to a promotion at work eating up my time and energy, I took on a t-shirt design contest for Back in the Day Bakery (one color image, 8x10 max, $100 if they use it) and am also potentially doing some photo editing for the Savannah Candy Kitchen's website and catalog if they like the edits I sent them (essentially trying out for the job type stuff). Cross my fingers for both to be thumbs up.

Also, a dear friend of mine, Amy, sent me a link to a cool art project that you can find out about here: http://arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject . I ordered my own sketchbook and plan to participate as it would not only be good practice, but my artwork gets to travel the US and then have a permanent place in the Brooklyn Art Library if I finish it by the deadline. And that would be totally cool... Oh btw my theme for my sketchbook is going to be Nighttime Stories. Kinda excited about that :)

And now without further ado, I'd like to introduce to you my t-shirt illustration for BinDB.

Just an update...

For my first week of no classes, Zac and I traveled home to Florida and then to Birmingham, AL to visit friends and families. My first days off since Christmas to do whatever I wanted... The only pictures I took were at the Aquarium in Atlanta on the way home because I didn't want to miss first hand experiences with my family and friends while we were visiting. Anyway, we got back late Sunday night and I've worked every day since then (until today) and am training to be a shift leader (finally) by the end of the month. It is weird having days off now from work since I am not taking summer classes. I'm not used to having nothing to do. And thusly, I am putting my studio back in order. It was in such disarray from this past year, and the neglect I paid it, so I am going to buy and implement some type of organization system today and give everything a home. That way when I move again it will be easy to find things and get them in order again.

After I've accomplished that I'll work on some new artwork to post and just to keep practice in. I'll also take some pictures of my workspace when I get it fixed up to share with you all.

Til then,
Brit

Final Stretch...

This week is finals week here at SCAD, and you know what that means? Lots of work to be posted in the next week! Working on my two page illustration for Humorous Illu. at the moment. Doing it the same way I did the last project, pencils scanned and digitally colored. Making a "funny book" that will include all of my pieces from that class. If anyone is interested I will post it on blurb later for purchase. Just let me know.

Also have a final piece for portfolio featuring the family dinner. I'm basically doing a portrait of my family for this... Ink and watercolor for this one as with the last for that class, the helicopter parents piece.

Lastly, need to crank out 7- 27 more sketches for my water color sketchbook too. 7 to keep an A, 27 to meet the "100 sketches from life" requirement.

Busy busy busy. And still have two days at Firehouse this weekend. Wish me luck and the ability to sleep this week guys! :)

What I'm Working On...

A Boy's Imagination, Brittany White (c) 2010

I'll have a color version up soon. My professor asked our class to try scanning our pencils rather than redrawing our originals this time. So I'm trying it out. Not sure how I'm going to color it yet(what media I mean) so I'll let you know the route I took on Wednesday. I have one more to draw, as well as some re-do work, or continuation of a project rather that will replace (sort of) what I already did. All of it will be posted by Friday if all goes right.

Til next time!

Fireflies

Jokes about Fireflies, Brittany White Copyright 2010

Illustration of Verbena

Verbena, Brittany White Copyright 2010
Here is my original illustration. I painted it in watercolor on cold press arches block, and took it into photoshop to adjust the flower border, making it lighter and smaller than my original painting. The flower is called Verbena, and it grows on long stems that reach up in swoops from the ground. They are a crawling plant type, but don't attach themselves to the ground away from the root.

Seed Packet Design, Brittany White Copyright 2010
In context, this illustration is for use on a seed packet. It could be used for just about anything though- wallpaper, stationary, dishware, towels, fabric, you name it. I love plants and natural stuff so look forward to seeing more botanical pieces in the future. I may do some more and actually make a repeat pattern using different flowers/plants for each season... Sounds like I have some research to do.

In my next post: 5 single panel humorous illustrations! Till then.

Here's for another night of scanning.

Repeat Pattern-First Attempt

Utensils, Brittany White (c) 2010
Repeat pattern of kitchen utensils. Imagine it as wrapping paper, covering a recipe box, dish towels, note cards, whatever you can possibly think of it being on. I'm going to tweak this one a little more a repost it, but this was the version I had for class. All images in the pattern are watercolor paintings done at real size of the utensils themselves.

A Self Portrait

Cookbook Cover and Spot Illustrations!

Here you go guys, my cookbook cover and spot illustrations from Illustrating the Edible. I decided to do a Chili pepper book, because they are just so vibrant and colorful. And I love bright colors. Watercolor on arches cold press, as usual. Enjoy!

Watercolor Sketches

All images copyrighted to Brittany White, 2010
I did these in my Watercolor class during our on location painting assignment. These aren't exactly recent (they're from Fall quarter, or 3-4 months ago), but I just scanned them into the computer tonight. I don't get many nights with free time, so I'm taking advantage of it. Enjoy.

My 1st Children's Book is Finished :)

Okay so, the reason I haven't been posting as I promised in my first post was I just haven't had any time between school work (including this project), work work (oh, Firehouse Subs...), and I had to take a little while off due to my grandmother (rest her soul) passing away last month. But alas, I have a finished book that you can preview by clicking on this badge below. Feel free to purchase it, but keep in mind I am raising the price within the next two weeks so that I can actually make a profit off of my work if someone buys it. Right now it is at base cost that the website charges to print it.

This is my very first child's book, made as a dummy book that I would send out to possibly get picked up by a publishing company. I plan to, when I have the time, go back in and work further on the artwork and text some more to fine tune it. Less than 8 weeks to write and illustrate a book is not very much time in the book world. That aside I hope you enjoy it, and if you purchase a copy let me know, and I'd love to hear some feed back. I'll be on spring break in a week so I'll be posting more artwork from the past quarter (I promise X) to make up for not doing so in the past two months. Thanks guyssss.
